Suzimiya Haruhi no Yuutsu – Primer 1

涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 Primer

This is the first part of a primer to the series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱) — aka The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. To begin with, I’ll run through significant characters.

Suzumiya Haruhi

VA: Hirano Aya

The titular Haruhi is the center of all the strange events that transpire. Is she the key to evolution, a god or something even more bizarre? She’s the founder and chief of the SOS Brigade, an after-school club that exists to seek out the extraordinary in the world.

"Kyon"

VA: Sugita Tomokazu

(Kyon was originally his sister’s nickname for him — we never learn his real full name.) He is the first person that’s been able to bring Haruhi out of her shell. It was after meeting him that she decided to start the SOS Brigade and she dragged him (literally) along for the ride.

Nagato Yuki

VA: Chihara Minori

Yuki was originally the sole member of the Literary Club. When she raised no objections to Haruhi using the Literary Clubroom for her own purposes, she essentially became a member by default.

Asahina Mikuru

VA: Goto Yuko

Mikuru is the first new recruit Haruhi pressgangs into joining the SOS Brigade. Despite being older than the other members, she is very timid and is frequently used by Haruhi for her own purposes.

Koizumi Itsuki

VA: Ono Daisuke

Koizumi is the "mysterious transfer student" that Haruhi decides she wants in the club. He hides his true thoughts behind a good-natured, easy-going exterior.

Asakura Ryoko

VA: Kuwtani Natsuko

Ryoko is the president of Haruhi and Kyon’s class. She seems very interested in Haruhi’s actions…

Kyon’s Sister

VA: Aoki Sayaka

Kyon’s younger sister. Provides possibly the cutest moment of the series when she attempts to stow away in his carry bag in order to follow him on a club trip. She’s the one responsible for spreading Kyon’s nickname (of which he’s none to fond.)

Tsuruya-san

VA: Matsuoka Yuki

She’s a friend of Mikuru. To say she’s a livewire would be like saying the QEII is fairly large. Has an interesting way of speaking; finishes many sentences with -nyoro.
