Australia are safely through to the next round of World Cup 2010 Qualifying after defeating Qatar 3-1 in Doha overnight.
The result leaves Australia 3 points clear on top of the table in Group 1 with one game left to play. The match between Iraq and Qatar will decide who accompanies the Socceroos to the next stage.
What a fantastic result this was, especially coming after the disappointment of the 1-0 loss to Iraq in Dubai last weekend. Brett Emerton really shone in a more attacking role, showing real poise in scoring his two goals. Captain Harry Kewell scored the third for the side, and was unlucky to miss out on bagging a double, with a dubious foul chalking off an earlier strike.
Australia’s final fixture is against China next Sunday night in Sydney.
